Why do Americans sit back and let their government operate with little to no transparency?

Americans let corrupt big corporate bureaucratic politicians run the show, while corporate "fat cats" sit back and let the middle cl suffer. They always talk about monetary reform, and change in policy and nothing ever happens. And what do Americans do about it? Hundreds of thousands of people don't get out there and pack the streets and try and voice there opinion and force the government to change it's ways. They just let their government lie, manipulate, and stomp all over the constitution. I mean, Americans can't really be happy with who they have working for there government and the way things have been going recently. I just don't understand why the people in the U.S. are not more proactive in there approach to try and create more transparency within their government.
