Questions about geographic tongue?

I've read that there is a cure for geographic tongue, but what is it? Me and my friend tried to research it and found an article about "Jon" curing his tongue. How do you get geographic tongue? Is there anything that can make it worse, if so then what? Is there anything that can temporarily help it? if so than what?
